Gondhoraj Bhapa Murg

We are now introducing a new recipe: Gondhoraj Bhapa Murg. This delightful Bengali dish features chicken marinated in a fragrant blend of Gondhoraj lime juice, mustard, and spices, then steamed to perfection, resulting in a light, aromatic, and flavorful meal.

Now, Lets Look At The Recipe

Ingredients

500 grams chicken (cut into pieces)
2 tablespoons mustard paste (soak 2 tbsp mustard seeds in water for 15 minutes and blend to a fine paste)
    2 tablespoons yogurt
1 tablespoon poppy seeds paste (optional)
    1 tablespoon grated coconut
2-3 tablespoons Gondhoraj lime juice (or regular lime juice if unavailable)
    2 tablespoons mustard oil
    4 green chilies (slit)
    1 teaspoon turmeric powder
    Salt to taste
    Fresh coriander leaves (for garnish)

Steps To Make It :

    1. Prepare the Marinade :
In a large bowl, combine mustard paste, yogurt, poppy seeds paste (if using), grated coconut, Gondhoraj lime juice, mustard oil, turmeric powder, and salt.
Mix well to form a smooth marinade.
    2. Prepare the Banana Leaves :
If using banana leaves, cut them into squares large enough to wrap the chicken pieces.
Lightly heat each leaf over an open flame or in a dry pan to make them pliable.
    3. Wrap the Chicken :
Place marinated chicken pieces in the center of each banana leaf square.
Add a slit green chili on top of the chicken for extra flavor.
Fold the banana leaves to wrap the chicken securely and tie with a cotton thread. If using an oven-safe dish, simply place the marinated chicken in the dish and cover with a lid.
    4. Steam the Chicken :
Place the wrapped chicken parcels in a steamer and steam for about 20-25 minutes until the chicken is cooked through.
Alternatively, place the oven-safe dish with the marinated chicken in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) and bake for 25-30 minutes.
    5. Serve :
Carefully unwrap the banana leaves or remove the lid from the dish.
Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with steamed rice or roti.

Enjoy the aromatic and flavorful Gondhoraj Bhapa Murg !
