Chicken Dhansak
Chicken Dhansak is a traditional Parsi dish blending chicken,
lentils, and vegetables with aromatic spices,
creating a rich and hearty meal typically served with brown rice.

Ingredients
500 grams chicken (cut into pieces)
1 cup mixed lentils (tuvar dal, masoor dal, moong dal)
2 tablespoons oil
2 onions (finely chopped)
2 tomatoes (chopped)
1 potato (peeled and cubed)
1 small brinjal (eggplant) (cubed)
2 tablespoons ginger-garlic paste
2 green chilies (slit)
1 teaspoon turmeric powder
1 teaspoon red chili powder
1 teaspoon cumin powder
1 teaspoon coriander powder
1 teaspoon garam masala
1 tablespoon tamarind paste
Salt to taste
Fresh coriander leaves (for garnish)
Steps To Make It :
1. Cook the Lentils :
Wash and soak lentils for 30 minutes. Drain and cook in a pressure cooker until soft. Mash lightly and set aside.
2. Prepare the Chicken :
Heat oil in a pan, add onions, and sauté until golden brown.
Add ginger-garlic paste and green chilies, sauté until fragrant.
Add chicken and cook until lightly browned.
3. Add Vegetables and Spices :
Add tomatoes, potato, and brinjal. Cook until vegetables soften.
Mix in turmeric, red chili powder, cumin, coriander powder, and salt. Cook for 2-3 minutes.
4. Combine Lentils and Chicken :
Add mashed lentils to the pan, mix well, and add 2 cups of water. Simmer for 20-25 minutes until everything is cooked through.
5. Finish the Dish :
Stir in tamarind paste and garam masala, cook for another 5 minutes. Adjust seasoning.
6. Serve
Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with brown rice.
